Title: Sr. Java/HIPAA Developer

Region: San Diego Metro

Description: Will design and develop a healthcare consumer/web portal for a health care claims clearing house and patient and provider information access to the patient's insurance policy information. Number one priority is good Java experience and having experience with a similar company, although the healthcare industry experience is secondary. Will report to a senior (lead) software engineer previously placed by National Search Associates. This is a developer (coding) position in a well run environment where employees rarely work week ends, are well rested and treated very well. Claims are sent from a doctor through a clearing house to a payer (insurance company). Communication is through the HIPPA Standard Messaging Set (transaction set), which is a standardized format mandated by congress. The clearinghouse also operates as an ASP, the largest customer being Aetna. Aetna policyholders access the clearinghouse 's portal through Aetna's website. The clearinghouse also operates its own portal where people come to their web destination and use the clearinghouse's software. The way the system works for a physician is that the physician's office selects a payer (insurance company) and a user ID number such as a social security number. Then the doctor selects the subscriber (patient) from a list of subscribers, date of service, etc., then clicks Submit and a message is formulated in the HIPPA standard and it goes from the physician's office to the insurance company's data center and it finds that member and pulls down information about that patient's benefits and eligibility and it sends it back to clearinghouse. The clearinghouse rebuilds the screen in HTML, which tells the doctor all about the patient's insurance. Tells what the patient's co-pay, etc. are for the doctor or hospital. The Practice Management System that the clearinghouse is in the early stages of building takes that information into account in accounting and scheduling.
